The Tiptons of Seattle (Formerly the Billy Tipton Memorial Sax Quartet) and the Quadrophonnes of Portland share the stage at Alberta street pub Jan 11th.
Both groups take a bold original approach to jazz, funk, world soul, Gypsy, classical and world music in original tunes. This will be a night not to be missed with the double quartet to end the night.
THE TIPTONS SAXOPHONE QUARTET & DRUMS are an internationally renowned all-female saxophone quartet with drums, celebrating over 30 years as a band. Formed in 1988 and originally based in Seattle, the members now live on the West and East coasts as well as in the Midwest. They create some of the freshest sounds on the jazz/world/pop music scene today with their solid instrumental and vocal talent, and are regularly featured at music festivals throughout Europe and North America. The ensemble is comprised of powerful saxophonists, all leaders of their own renowned projects. Joining founder and Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame member Amy Denio (alto sax, clarinet, voice) and co-leader Jessica Lurie (soprano, alto, tenor sax,voice) are Sue Orfield (tenor sax, voice), Tina Richerson (baritone saxophone, voice), and a rotating cast of virtuosic drummers from the US and Europe. ...
